Dr. Hammer has long been a staunch advocate of animal assisted therapy, serving as Director of Animal Assisted Therapy; Activities for 10 years at DVU and as a trainer and evaluator for the Delta Society. Prior to entering academia, Dr. Hammer worked in the biomedical field and in laboratory animal science. She had practiced small animal medicine at her clinic in Oregon and now has retired.
