Licensing & Accreditation

The Animal Behavior Institute is accredited by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training; we are licensed by the North Carolina State Board of Community Colleges. ABI has also formed Learning Partnerships with  a number of other professional organizations that are committed to lifelong learning and development. Please note that the Animal Behavior Institute is an exclusively online, non-degree granting institution and that we are not able to accept Title IV funding, such as Pell Grants or PLUS loans.

Review and approval processes ensure that an institution meets recognized standards. An approval agency is an independent body charged with objectively determining whether an organization meets these professional standards. Approval communicates to the public that an institution has met accepted standards and assures prospective students that the courses and programs offered are of high quality and value.

North Carolina Board of Community Colleges

The Animal Behavior Institute is licensed by the North Carolina State Board of Community Colleges having met the requirements of Article 8 of Chapter 115D of the General Statutes of North Carolina. Please note that the North Carolina State Board of Community Colleges is not an accrediting agency.

The purpose of this licensing is to assure prospective and enrolled students that proprietary schools meet required standards of quality in their operation.  More information on licensing regulations and processes, licensed schools, and additional resources related to post-secondary educational standards can be found at the licensing page of the North Carolina State Board of Community Colleges.

International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET)

The Animal Behavior Institute is accredited as an authorized provider by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET), 2201 Cooperative Way, Suite 600, Herndon, VA, 20171; (703) 763-0705.  In obtaining this approval, the Animal Behavior Institute has demonstrated that it complies with the ANSI/IACET Standard which is recognized internationally as a standard of good practice. As a result of our accreditation status, the Animal Behavior Institute is authorized to offer IACET CEUs for its programs that qualify under the ANSI/IACET Standard. Please note that IACET accreditation applies only to continuing education. This approval is not equivalent to the accreditation recognized by the U.S. Department of Education for degree-granting institutions.

Who accepts IACET CEU credits? Hundreds of companies, regulatory boards and professional associations. These organizations are committed to ongoing professional development and recognize the value of our accredited programs. You can review the published directory of organizations accepting the IACET CEU to determine whether your organization already accepts IACET CEUs. However, it is important to check with your specific agency to confirm that a specific course or program will be accepted.
