Dr. Valerie Chalcraft


Dr. Chalcraft is an applied behaviorist with a Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology. In graduate school, at the University of Nevada, she studied the impact of environmental enrichment on the behavioral and linguistic development of captive chimpanzees. She has subsequently devised enrichment protocols at numerous institutions, including the Gorilla Foundation, the Chimpanzee & Human Communication Institute, the Animal Ark Wildlife Sanctuary, Walk on the Wild Side and Primarily Primates.

Dr. Chalcraft has extensive experience with companion animals as well. She has worked on countless behavior consultations at the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) in New York and has served as the Director of their Behavior Helpline. For fifteen years she has worked with private clients through the business she founded, Applied Animal Behavior, with a specialization in feline behavior.
