Professor Kristen Lewis

Professor Lewis is the Director of Strategic Initiatives the Philadelphia Zoo and oversees the Zoo’s mission impact goals including strategic planning, priorities, and program evaluation and analysis. Kristen spent several years as head of the education department, including outreach, school and family programs, public programs and exhibits that reach 1.2 million visitors a year. She serves as the Education Liaison for both the Association of Zoos & Aquarium's Bear TAG (Taxon Advisory Group) and the Association of Zoos & Aquarium's Micronesian Kingfisher SSP (Species Survival Plan Program).

In addition to her zoo experience, Kristen also has decades of expertise in the equine industry. She started riding horses at the age of 8 years old, competing in three-phase events across the tri-state area, teaching riding and driving lessons to young children and competing at the national level on the University of Delaware equestrian team. She now runs her own horse farm where she enjoys leisure time with horses and miniature donkey.
